Coach CornerMatch playForhand topspin technique
Gabriel Kozakevych asked 3 weeks ago

Hi i also have a question about my forhand topspin technique i feel there i have a Problem to find the right Arc on the ball because i personally think that i either Swing to much Forward and my shot has great Speed but to less Spin or i Swing to much upward and my shot lose Speed but has more Spin. Do you know maybe how i can set myself cues to really find the right Forward and upward path colleration. Because i thought maybe If i really will take care to hit the ball in front of my Body that this way maybe i also find IT easier to really get the right Forward and upward path on my topspin maybe also where my Racket ends Is a good indicator. Do you have other cues maybe that i could add AS a Addition to find the right forward and upward Motion for my forhand topspin against No Spin ?

Hey Gabriel, in this situation often the best cues are the ones you get from your opponent and how they are dealing with your shots. If the ball is arcing too high they will be able counter attack it easily, so then you know you need to keep the stroke a little more forward and brush over the top to make sure the balls are not sitting up too high. And of course the same if you hit a lot off balls into the net you know you need to brush upwards slightly more. Against no spin it’s important to stay relaxed and not have a swing which is too long or over extended.

OK but i mean for Sure If the ball is arcing to high than my opponent will have IT easier to counter Attack but generally i Heard the forhand topspin IS a movement from Low to high with a vertical Racket path. But my Problem i See IS generally i think the Racket path IT self because i think its either to much forward Against No Spin or to much upward its Not Like i Miss the topspin. But I feel i could Play It with a Lot more quality and that Is very important for me to learn. So maybe you could Just explain me how i can have right Racket path for perfect Speed and Spin ?

Hey Gabriel sorry I missed this reply. So the racket path will change a lot depending on the type of ball you are facing, for backspin you will need to brush a bit more upwards and of course topspin more forwards and direct to keep the ball down. So it’s mostly about learning how to adapt for each different situation
