Coach CornerTechniquesHow do we improve the quality of forehand topspin?
Kevin Tang asked 2 years ago

I played a few players much better than me and it seems their quality is just so much higher. Their spin was heavy and really hard to handle. I can spin it, but it feels like my forehand topspin is relatively easier to return, whereas it’s really tough to return theirs.
What’s the key to improving quality of the spin and what are some steps to take to improve this?

Ok so the main things they are probably doing differently is usi g the legs and body better and having more acceleration through the contact. These are the things which allow you to get more spina nd quality on the shots. Also perhaps timing, being sure to time the ball at the peak of the bounce and then really getting a good weight transfer through the shot.
It won’t take long to see a difference if you work on these things, if your focus is more spin then also making sure your grip isn’t too hard or tight and you have a relaxed wrist in the shot and again good acceleration through the ball.
