Coach CornerHow is my hook serve short backspin?
Kevin Tang asked 1 year ago

I’m trying to learn the hook serve short backspin from the Par Gerell course, wondering how you think my progress is and what adjustments I need to make.

Hey Kevin, it’s looking good so far and I think with some slight adjustments you will be able to improve it even more. So your general serving action is pretty good, I would say though if you can tilt the bat angle so you are contacting a bit more around the side and under the ball this will help a lot. Also trying to stay relaxed int he upper body and arm which will allow you to rotate the body a bit more and get a bit more acceleration through the contact.

I also think if you can really relax your wrist and loosen it right up so it’s more flexible through the serve, this is where a lot of the spin is generated, and we both really noticed this though the Masterclass when Par was explaining how he gets the spin. So with this relaxed wrist you will be able to bring it back more and then accelerate through the ball on contact which will help the backspin. Let us know how you find this and if you have any other questions on it 🙂
