Coach CornerPsychologyHow to keep a level head in matches
ReeceTowe123 asked 4 years ago

When I play matches I often find that later in the game I will have a very poor set where I will get beat mabye 11-3 or 11-4 even though i have one other sets and might be 2-1 up in sets. So i find after this bad set my mental game goes downhill and i start missing my shots cause im getting angry which then causes me to get angrier. Then eventually i end up losing the match wondering how my level went downhill so fast. Are there any techniques or tips that help with this? Are there any things i can do to help build up this mental stability in matches?

We have a few good videos in the psychological video section on this type of thing on the Academy so definitely worth checking those out!

The main thing I would say is having a game plan, structure or tactics to follow to keep your mind clear and inly focusing on a few key points that you need to tey to execute against that particular player. This will keep you more focused and not so stressed about each individual point. When things seem to go down hill fast, make a real effort to slow the game down and take your towel when possible to break the opponents momentum and also give you an opportunity to calm down and re-focus.
