I was under the impression that if a long pimples chopper chops my underspin ball, the resulting ball should be a float or no spin ball.
If that’s the case, why does it seem like the attacker need to brush it up as if the ball were heavy underspin? We see rallies like this all the time where it seems like a constant need for the attacker
I’m watching this match – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYCnPW_W-C4 – and I’m noticing after the backhand chop, the attacker seems to either push or have to brush heavy the next few balls as if it were heavy backspin.

Hey Kevin,

Yes this is the basic reaction of pimples, however some high level choppers can produce some backspin on the ball still by really cutting through the shot. Also if the attacker is playing with a lot of topspin sometimes the ball will still come back with backspin if the player is able to really come down on the ball.

Sometimes as an attacker in this type of game is best to be patient and not rush to keep spinning every attack. If you give the chopper different shots and mix up the timing they will have less chance to play a quality shot.

When you do get the chance to play with more power and catch out the chopper if they do get this ball back it will often be the float type of ball you mentioned and you can attack again and finish the point. Hope this helps!
