Maximising training time
Dear both, I play at my local club 2 hrs per week – it isn’t a high standard (I am the second best player there and I am only a local division 4 league player). I have an amicus robot and practice on it for up to 3 hours/week. My standard has improved but not by a lot. How important is it to play better players? This might be hard for me to organise but I am really motivated to get better. Any Advice on robot training, getting better and playing others greatly received.
Hi Dango,
It can be important to play players that push you and are better than yourself, however you can still get valuable training from players who are perhaps weaker than yourself or on the robot as you mentioned. A good mix i practice is important so making the effort to play with new and different players will certainly help improvement. In terms of getting better and improving its about focusing on key elements of your game that will make a difference, now obviously that’s individual to yourself but serve and receive are both huge factors as well as consistency of strokes.
For robot training, this is most effective when used to focus on regular practice to improve technique of the shots and footwork so make use of the movement capabilities of the robot and getting fast around the court while maintaining solid shots.
Hope that helps and any other questions let us know! Tom
Hey Dango,
Thanks for your question. Really good to hear your motivated to improve that’s the most important factor to development. Tom has covered pretty much covered everything here. What I was going to add is try and play as much competition as possible, playing tournaments at weekends is a great way to develop fast as you are playing against many players/styles you haven’t come across before. This will help you with new experiences and ways to cope with different situations. It will also give you more awareness on what you need to work on and improve.
Keep up the great work!
