Coach CornerServe and Receivereverse-pendulum-vs-hook-serve

What’s the pros and cons of each of these serves?  They seem to have the same spin direction. I’m looking to master one for my game.

Hey Kevin, I think the hook serve is much easier to learn overall, it’s more simple to master and can get you some cheap points. The reverse serve is harder to learn but you can really hide the spin well and people tend to struggle to return it. Everyone is different so it depends which you find more comfortable, but they are both good serves to have in your game! Dan 🙂

Why is it easier to hide the spin on reverse pendulum?

Hi Kevin
I use both types of serve and I find the hook serve can create a lot of sidespin but to do that the action is more visible to the opponent and they have time to counteract the spin. In the reverse pendulum the action is less obvious as you can change at the last minute from backspin to topspin which gives the opponent less time tlo react. I get some cheap points when I disguise a backspin as topspin and the opponent hits the return into the net.
Hope this makes sense.
