stiga-dragon-grip-review
Hey Nicolaas, we haven’t got one on the Dragon grip but I have tested it myself so anything you would like to know about it just let me know 🙂
Curious about the speed and control. I imagine that there is plenty of spin generated with the tacking rubber.
Is Dragon Grip slower than the DNA Platinum rubbers?
I had a chance to try Dragon Grip 2.3mm black and red sheets on a Stiga Energy Wood V2 blade. The first thing I noticed is how heavy the rubber is. It makes the paddle VERY head heavy.
It is a very slow rubber. I was so disappointed for a rubber that is relatively expensive. Being a tacky rubber, you would expect the rubber to generate a lot of spin, but being so heavy, it’s difficult to generate the spin. I don’t know who this rubber is meant for. It’s not for the offensive minded player, perhaps a slow and blocking type player might find this ok.

In this video Seth Pech a high level player from the US uses stiga dragon grip on the forehand with a good technique he got plenty of power, more than enough to end points. His forehand counter was also insane and he seemed to have a lot of control
whether or not you like it probably depends on your technique and playing style, but I think it is wrong to make the assumption for ever offensive player
I have gone back to give Dragon Grip another shot. I do have a more favorable feeling for the rubber, especially when I tried the Par Gerell kicker serve. I was surprised that the higher rated player could not return my kicker serves. I am liking the Dragon Grip rubber.
Yes I think for serves this rubber can be very good, glad you are finding it better now. It always takes some time to adjust to a different rubber so it’s good you have it another try!
After a few weeks with Dragon Grip, I am enjoying the spin and control. This is a rubber that takes time to get used to. I am keeping Dragon Grip on my blade as it has become a favorite.
Yes Nicolaas, that’s what I found with the rubber it’s pretty slow and not easy to generate power at all. It’s got amazing grip, spin and control so for some players it will be really well suited. But not for most modern attackers I would say. If you play a very controlled all round game or very much spin based it can be a great rubber then.
Gabriel in answer to your part, of course if you use booster on this type of rubber it’s possible to generate power and speed, but I think most players here want to have a rubber you can just stick on and use without having to boost. Different players like different things of course and this slower grippy type rubber will be absolutely amazing for some people. As with any equipment it mostly comes down to personal preference and style to what you will chose to play with.
