Coach CornerTechniquesstraight-or-bent-wrist-on-forehand

Hi Guys. I’m so inconsistent on my forehand. It’s frustrating that I can’t match my shadow swings when I play. I regress to pushing too often. A big part of the problem is that I don’t have a table and don’t play much. I am so used to using my wrist on my tennis forehand, but it took years for me to do that. Should I just keep a straight wrist until I get consistent  and do you use a lot of wrist on your topspin? Thanks.

Hi Slicepong,

Yes I can understand how this is frustrating, I would definitely try to minimise the wrist movement until you become consistent and confident with your technical skills. With the topspin there is definitely use of the wrist but not too much, its a quick acceleration through the contact.

Of course more table time and practice will help to reinforce the skills and improvement.
