Coach CornerTechniquestiming-for-blocking-heavy-spin

Hi,
I am a bit confused about how to actively block heavy spin. I feel that one should block heavy spin off the bounce as the spin will increase with time. What do you think?
Thanks

Hi Sweetiele,

Great question. I think you are right you want to block the heavy spin when the ball is on the rise/top of the bounce however this can be high risk at times and takes practice. Have you seen this video? https://tabletennisdailyacademy.com/videos/how-to-block-heavy-topspin-shots/

Does it help?

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the reply Dan!

Yes, I have seen the video. I feel that if I don’t block a heavy spin ball off the bounce with a closed bat angle, then it gets easy to play an offensive shot. It’s absolutely true that body position matters a lot.
