Hi Dan and Tom. I am striving to have a smooth, rhythmic backswing on the forehand. In general, do you advocate for moving behind the ball, then starting the backswing or starting  the backswing as you move? Obviously, there are times when under duress you have to just get the ball over as best you can, but most of the time this shouldn’t be necessary; especially since I figured out the linear backswing. Thanks.

Hi Slicepong,

In general we would suggest trying to start the backswing as you move to save time and also this means you can use your body rotation and weight transfer in the shots better. If you mive and then do the backswing it can sometimes feel as though you’ve lost your momentum and you are almost pausing between movements making it less fluid.

As you said sometimes you just have to get there abd play the shot as best you can but overall that’s what you should be aiming for.
