Coach CornerTips against pimples
darion888 asked 2 years ago

Hi guys,
I’ve got some questions. First of all what is the best serve against short pimples? I heard about short and long backspin serve. But are sidespin-topspin or sidespin-backspin serves a good idea? Should I expect a difficult for me serve receive after serving such serves? Or will it work more/less the same as a normal rubber. The next question is how to return a serve from long pimples? Should I treat it as a normal float ball or rather some backspin stuff?

Hey Darion, ok so with the first question of course it depends on the player using it and their style, long fast backspin or even short backspin are both good against short pimples for sure. Sidespin topspin can sometimes be punched through with short pimples so perhaps not the best choice, sidespin backspin will be fine to use though. I would say like with playing any style or rubber the most important thing is variation and keeping the opponents guessing and making decisions. I will work similar to returns from normal rubbers but will come back at you with less spin than a normal rubber so you may need to add a bit more topspin to your follow up shots.

On the 2nd question there won’t be loads of spin on a serve from long pimples, they can generate light backspin but not a lot. So you can treat them almost like a float ball and topspin through them.
