video-analysis-of-my-match
Hi guys,
I will start by introducing myself since it’s the first time I post here.
My name is Martin and I’m from Italy. I play table tennis for 4 years and since last year I decided to put short pimples on my backhand. After a year an a half of playing with short pimples (I tried several but i prefered more grippy short pips that felt more similar to inverted) I am now thinking of going back to inverted. What would you take in consideration when deciding wether to play with short pips or not?
I will leave you the link of the latest match I played, hoping you could help me to identify areas of my game that need improvements, and if you could give me some drills to do that would help me achieving it. Another thing I struggle with is keeping a lead, as you will see in the video where I was winning 2-0 but ended up losing the match 3-2
Hey Martin! Great to have you here on the Academy and I’ve just watched the video you sent in. S your forehand seems to be strong and where you are winning a lot pf points. I think the thing right now with your forehand that will help it become even stronger is learning to just shorten the swing down so you can recover faster and keep attacking with your forehand. A great way to train this is to get someone to block you anywhere in your forehand half and you have to stay close to the table and keep playing topspin’s and a short swing, focus on snapping from the elbow.
With the pimples I would say with normal rubber you’ll have a lot more options and flexibility to mix up spin and play different shots, pimples can be quite hard to master and use really well so I’d say normal rubber gives you more options. Of course you just need to think about yourself and what you find the most comfortable because everyone is different and some people find it easier to control the ball with pimples and it can mess up some opponents a lot as well.
With the leading 2-0 I think in this match you became a bit more negative and started to push more with your backhand after you were 2-0 up. In the beginning you were attacking a lot more with your forehand an winning points like that. Also in this situation if you find it keeps happening, really try to think about and find what was working to get you into the lead, what tactics was winning points and try to focus on keeping going with that all the way through the match. Let me know if you have any questions on this. Dan 🙂
