The forehand push in table tennis is one of the 4 basic fundamental shots, it needs to be learnt well in order to allow you to return serve and short balls well when over the table. It is often referred to as a more defensive shot but allows you to cut underneath the ball to create backspin. This shot can also be further developed into a forehand touch or forehand chop when the basics have been grasped.
