Coach CornerTacticshow-to-play-against-players-who-return-high-balls-from-the-long-distance

Hi Dan and Tom,
I often find myself struggling when playing against players who return high balls from the long distance. The ball is quite slow with no or slight side spin. I usually smash the balls but it seems that is exactly what they want. What would you recommend?
Thanks
Pavel

Hey Pavel, yes it can be difficult against these shot sometimes for sure. So the key when playing these types of shots is to vary what you do, try to use the angles and be patient rather than trying to win the point and hit to hars to quickly which can cause mistakes. Also a well executed drop shot in this situation can work well, we have a video on this so definitely take a look at that one!

The last thing I would say is focus on timing at a comfortable height and near the top of the bounce to get the best contact and quality of shot. Hope that makes a difference for you!
