Coach CornerEquipmentReplacement for Butterly Sriver L
PavelZ asked 7 years ago

Hi guys,
thank you for your instructional videos. They helped me a lot.
I’ve been playing table tennis for 14 months. I use Butterfly Sriver L rubber on forehand and backhand.
I like to play offensive game. What rubber would you recommend for me as a replacement for the Sriver?
Or should I stick with the Sriver for some time?
Thanks
Pavel

Hi Pavel,
Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos and they are helping your game! For 14 months playing Sriver L is a good rubber to master the basics and have good control. Although it is from the old era of rubbers, so when you feel you have good consistency, technique and confidence in your strokes you may want to change to something a bit faster. The most important thing is to keep learn good technique before moving to a rubber which is too fast, so I would stay with the sriver a bit longer and then move on to something from the new era of rubbers created after 2007. If you need any more information feel free to reply and we’ll get back to you.

Hi guys,
I’d like to reopen my question concerning replacement of my current Sriver rubbers. Some of my teammates told me that I should switch to some new era rubbers. They say that the Sriver requires too much effort to play topspin against backspin. I’m considering Rozena. I don’t need too much speed but I would appreciate more spin. What do you think?

Hey Pavel, I would say Rozena is a pretty good choice to be honest, if your finding something like Sriver a bit too much effort that will definitely help. What I would say is be prepared to spend a bit of time adjusting to a new style modern era type rubber. Even going to Rozena it will be faster and you’ll need a bit of time to adjust to the spring of the rubbers, but once you do you’ll find it less effort to topspin and create spin in sure. You’ll need to get used to adjusting the bat angle on your shots because of the higher grip and spring of the rubbers. As long as your fairly confident with your basic technique and shots you’ll be fine, but if you do change just give yourself time to adjust 🙂 Hope that’s helpful and anything else, feel free to comment back and ask us here.

Hi Tom,
thank you for your answer. On monday I have bought Rozena 1.9 mm for both backend and forehand and I’m very satisfied so far. I have also tried the Stiga Calibra LT and LT Spin. They seemed very similar to Rozena. Since I have most equipment from Butterfly I prefered Rozena.
I have already played four matches with the new rubbers and it went pretty well. Of course I will have to adapt but it is not as difficult as I thought.

Hi Pavel,

No problem, I’m glad to hear that it’s going well with the Rozena and you are getting used to it quickly! I’m sure it will help your topspin play and also generate speed more easily 🙂
